Free State High School Orchestra Instrument Checkout/Rental Process
School Instrument Rental and Checkout Process:
Violin and Viola: If you play violin or viola you should plan to either own/purchase your own instrument, or rent from a local shop. We recommend either Beautiful Music Violin Shop, or KC Strings. Make sure to check into renting an instrument from these shops in June or July, before the rush hits if you don’t already own an instrument. One of the many benefits to renting from these shops is that you receive a wonderful quality instrument that you will truly be proud of and enjoy playing on, but also your payments go towards the purchase of the instrument, so eventually it will be yours to keep! If you need assistance trying to figure out what is a good instrument to purchase, please do not hesitate to reach out to our directors before purchasing. We’re happy to give advice. Be very cautious of internet purchases!
If you cannot purchase, or rent your own instrument for financial reasons, we have a very small inventory of instruments at Free State that can be rented from the school district for $50 a year. If a violinist or violist does need a school instrument, these instruments will be checked out during class time the first and second weeks of school. Paperwork will be sent home with the student to finalize checkout after the instrument is assigned. Lockers are provided for instrument storage, and are assigned on the first days of school. Students are required to provide their own lock for the locker, and locks are required to be used for security reasons.
Cello: We have a limited number of full size cellos at Free State to rent to students, but we are usually able to accommodate most students (instrument sharing is usually a necessity). Instrument checkout takes place during class time the first and second weeks of school. Paperwork will be sent home with the student to finalize check out after an instrument is assigned. We have no instrument checkout night.
Bass: We have school basses to rent to students, and often have the option to rent students two instruments (one for home/concerts, and one for daily rehearsals). Checkout takes place during class time the first and second weeks of school. Paperwork will be sent home with the student to finalize check out after an instrument/s is assigned.
